Why Choose a Childminder Leaving your precious one with someone for the first time can be a daunting experience. There are many different childcare options available and you naturally want what is best for your child, but have you ever considered using a Childminder. About Childminders Childminders provide full and part time high quality childcare in their own homes from babies through to secondary school and are self employed. All Childminders (and anyone looking after a non-related child in their own home for more than 2 hours a day) must, by law, be registered with OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education). Before a Childminder can become registered they must attend a local authority Childminder pre-registration course, attend an Early Years First Aid Course (which needs to be renewed every 3 years) and gain a qualification currently called ‘Introduction to Childcare Practice’. Ofsted will: Visit the Childminder’s home to check they are suitable to care for children and will set a limit on how many children can be cared for at any one time. Carry out a CRB check on the Childminder and other members of the household over the age of 16 to ensure they have not been convicted of an offence against a child Require all Childminders to take out Public Liability Insurance Require all Childminders to work in line with the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which concentrates on children aged from birth to the 31st August following their 5th birthday. Once registration is complete the Childminder will be inspected 6 months later and be graded Outstanding, Good, Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory. Inspections will then take place either in 1, 2 or 3 years depending on the grade. 10 Advantages Of Using a Childminder
